Bodegas URQO is a boutique winery in Mendoza, Argentina, producing elegant and stylish wines that have caught the eye of two of the top critics in South America: James Suckling and Joaquín Hidalgo from Vinous Media. Their Palo Santo label is a special project from Finca Algarrobos in Gualtallary, and Finca El Mirador in Chacayes, where the soil, altitude, and climate come together to create the perfect growing environment for Malbec. With the Andes Mountains protecting the vineyards to the west, the combination of the warm, sunny days and cool nights produces an elegant, ripe wine that rivals some of the best in the world. Dark violet in the glass with floral aromas and rich, ripe blackberry, plum and chocolate notes melted with blackcurrant and cassis display an excellent balance and freshness. If you've ever passed on Malbec thinking it's too one-dimensional, Palo Santo is a perception altering bottle.
"Ripe cherries, dried blueberries, dark chocolate, crushed stones and roasted herbs on the nose. Firm, textured and mineral, with chalky tannins and a balanced finish. Drink now or hold." James Suckling, 91 Points
"The 2022 Malbec Palo Santo hails from the Uco Valley. Purple in hue. The floral nose features violets and plums against a faintly hoppy backdrop. Velvety and indulgent on the palate, the textured tannic structure and juicy mouthfeel precede a mouthwatering finish of fruit and caramel. The 2022 is a well-crafted Malbec that delivers crystal clear flavors." Vinous Media, 91 Points
