If you haven't tried the Rieslings made by wunderkind Martin Tesch, now is the time! His Trocken Karthauser is a "drop everything" white, with huge scores from James Suckling and Robert Parker. The key word to describe this Riesling is "dry." When he took over the family-owned winery in 1996, Martin stopped producing sweet wines. He changed the label designs to some of the coolest in Germany, and reduced their collection to five single-vineyard whites. Loaded with explosive flavors and bracing acidity, The Wine Advocate calls the Karthauser: "beautifully clear, ripe, intense and pure. An outstanding wine almost every year." James Suckling has said this wine is both: "a dry riesling masterpiece with a near-perfect balance of restrained ripeness" with the "soul of the samurai sword and the brilliant shine of its blade." If you love Riesling, this is a must have!
"Very smoky with stacks of grapefruit and wild herb aromas this tastes like being hit by lightning, or at least somebody striking two huge flint stones together! This will take some time to reach its best, but the brilliance is already very striking. Drinkable now, but best from 2025." James Suckling, 95 Points
"From a warm, early-ripening plot on Rotliegend (red sandstone), the intensely yellow-colored 2022 Karthäuser Laubenheimer Riesling trocken opens with an aromatic and quite generous bouquet of ripe fruits and a reductive flintiness that tends toward untamed notes. The acidity is remarkably fine but vivacious and well integrated into the supple texture and full body. It gives a saline and uplifting finish with complex talents. It is tight and tensioned and with very good length despite, or because, of 11.5% stated alcohol. Stelvin screw cap." The Wine Advocate, 93 Points
