The Mastrojanni winery lies in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, in the south eastern most corner of Montalcino. An artistic and architectural heritage, surrounded by the majesty of its natural landscapes and, above all, an area particularly suitable for vine cultivation: the homeland of Brunello. Founded in 1975, and actually a recent arrival to The Wine Buyer, we've been absolutely blown away by the high quality of the wines. Today, thanks to an exceptional terroir and winemakers who have believed in it for decades, Mastrojanni has become one of the most respected producers in Montalcino.
"This rich, round red is marked by plum and cherry fruit, with grace notes of wild rosemary, juniper and stony mineral. Tightly wound, with an angular, steely finish that lingers nicely, despite the assertive tannins. Shows good energy. Best from 2026 through 2047. 5,200 cases made, 1,700 cases imported." The Wine Spectator, 93 Points
"With a red wax seal affixed to the front of the bottle, the Mastrojanni 2018 Brunello di Montalcino shows dark fruit, dried cherry, iris roots, savory spice and crushed stone. The wine presents a classic aromatic profile for Sangiovese from Montalcino. The only distraction is the wine's high 15% alcohol content. Otherwise, the wine is silky and smooth with integrated tannins. This 70,000-bottle production is set up for near and medium-term drinking." The WIne Advocate, 93 Points
