Alejandro Vigil knows how to make the best white wines in the world. He does it at Catena, he does it at El Enemigo, creating iconic wines that rival the best of Bordeaux & Napa Valley. The 2018 was so good, he received 100 Points for the Adrianna Vineyard White Bones Chardonnay and the Tupungato is the highest rated for the price. Alejandro's mastery of Chardonnay is indisputable. The warmer growing season resulted in a killer combination of wonderfully complex flavors, with scintillating freshness and precision. Rich and creamy, with fairly neutral oak, the aromas of fresh white peaches, pineapples, and jasmine are very alluring. More Pouilly-Fuisse than Napa Valley with citrus flavors with crisp fresh minerality. #1 Chardonnay under $15, this is amazing for the price!
"Catena is one of the quality leaders in Argentina and they combine quality and quantity. Furthermore, they are one of the pioneers: They were the first to plant vineyards in Gualtallary, which is nowadays considered one of the highest potential zones in the country. The wines are phenomenal, true to their place and vintage. The full clusters were pressed, and 80% of the juice fermented in stainless steel while the rest was in oak barrels, then the full volume matured in used French oak barrels for nine months. It has a note of popcorn, a smoky and spicy whiff and a balanced palate where the acidity is very integrated, fresh but with some density. It's varietal and approachable." The Wine Advocate, 92 Points
