For most of its existence, Bonarda was grown and cultivated as a blending grape, ignored as a serious varietal for decades. With the Durigutti Family project, winemakers Hector & Pablo Durigutti fortuitously discovered the potential of making old vines Bonarda from a heritage vineyard site in Agrelo. Their team believed in Bonarda's potential and unique personality, and began exploring its variations across Mendoza climates and soils. Sourced from 80-year-old vines planted on sandy soils at an altitude of 650 meters in Agrelo where Bonarda gives broad and juicy flavors that's generous in black fruits and spicy notes. After nine months in French oak, this is a voluptuous red with polished, creamy tannins. Most importantly, at $12.98 it doesn't break the bank. If you're a fan of Rhone style wines, the Durigutti Bonarda is for you!
"Ripe red berries, plums, chocolate, dried herbs and spices on the nose, followed by a medium to full body with smooth, velvety tannins and racy acidity to support its juicy red and dark fruit character. Lingering finish with hints of orange peel. Vegan. Drink now or hold." James Suckling, 92 Points
