Fonseca Twenty Year Old Tawny Porto is deep amber i n color with russet highlights. Its superb bouquet is a complex marriage of ripe, plummy, mature fruit, warm spicy overtones of cinnamon and butterscotch and subtle oak nuances. Full-bodied and voluminous on the palate, its smooth, velvety texture is carried into a long clean, elegant finish.
The 20-Year Old Tawny has another mellow bouquet, a little reticent at first but opening nicely with hazelnut, smoke and pine cones. There is that lovely warmth on the nose that makes you think of a warm fire in winter. The palate is well balanced with a noticeable oxidative entry: hazelnut, smoke, orange rind and cloves with Indian spice towards the well-defined, persistent finish. This is a great expression Tawny Port and it offers significantly more than the 10-Year Old Tawny.
Very spicy, with clove, maple, and ginger cream flavors leading the way. There's a smoky essence to the dark cherry and baked apricot notes, which power through to the finish. Drink now. –KM
