The famed French Champagne house Louis Pommery came to California to make sparkling wine a decade ago. With the 2021 vintage, the producer whose historic sparkling roots date to the 1850s, released its second Chardonnay from a single vineyard in Carneros. A true departure from the typically rich, buttery style, the Pommery Chardonnay is vinified in a way that channels Chablis with 97% of the blend from free-run juice with the balance aged in neutral French oak for three months. Beautiful golden yellow, marked by freshness and energy, with notes of candied citrus, dried lemon, and hints of vanilla, it's a perfect marriage of California's intense flavors, balanced by Chablis stony minerality and long finish. "Distinctive, with flavors of poached pear, candied ginger, marmalade and a note of fresh tarragon. Packs an elegant, sleek and juicy frame, with a mineral note lingering on the finish. Drink now. 1,500 cases." The Wine Spectator, 92 Points
