The famed Italian wine region of Piedmont gives the world exquisite Barolo and Nebbiolo, however some of the best values are found in Barbera. Such is the case for the Nizza 2020, rated 92 Points James Suckling and the top scoring Superiore DOC, which must have an alcoholic strength of at least 12.5%, and be aged for at least 14 months. Barbera is what the Italian's drink for their daily vino, chalk full of ripe red fruits, smooth tannins, excellent balance and a pretty finish. So vibrant that it practically shimmers across the palate, this low production Barbera is tightly wound and very focused. In a warmer vintage like 2020, the full ripeness of both fruit and tannins makes these wine attractive for immediate enjoyment. Along with Italian heavy hitter Burlotto, the Nizza could be the top expression of the varietal for the price. A real gem!
"Lots of Barbera fruit character with a medium to full body, dark fruits, orange peel and hints of chocolate. Tangy at the end. Drink now." James Suckling, 92 Points
