One of the biggest names in Italian wines, we were blown away by our recent tasting of the Poggio Scalette Chianti Classico. This famed Tuscan estate is known worldwide for their cultivation of 90 year old Sangiovese di Lamole in the Chianti Classico area of Greve. The vineyards lie on terraced slopes, called "Il Carbonaione" by the locals and were among the first vineyards planted immediately after World War I. Historically known to be the most full-bodied expression of Sangiovese, the 2020 is a more vibrant and finesse driven. Keeping the abundant aromas of red and dark berry fruits, tart cherries, blackberries, currants, and plums with notes of spice. On the palate, the wine is lush with flavors of red fruits buoyed by focused tannins unfolding over a pleasant, lingering finish. With Carbonaione now selling for $75 a bottle, their Chianti Classico is an amazing value under $20
