The most famous red wine made in Tuscany is Brunello di Montalcino. 100% Sangiovese aged five years after harvest, the estate of Tenuta San Giorgio is situated among the Brunello heavyweights Ciacci, Altesino, and Uccelliera in the township of Castelnuovo dell'Abate. Known for their ripe, powerful aromas, with an underlying intensity and weight that is typical of the southern vineyards, Ugolforte can hold for a few years but we loved this after an hour in the decanter. Dominated by flavors of freshly picked blueberries, this modern styled Brunello develops aromas of red fruits, with violet and black cherry notes, rising on the long coffee and oaky finish. Beautifully pure and inviting, with sweeping acidity and soft, ripe tannins. Don't miss Wine Spectator's top pick under $45 in the coveted 2019 vintage!
"Vibrant acidity and refined tannins seep into the fabric of this round red, which is laced with cherry, raspberry and floral aromas and flavors. Mineral and underbrush accents add depth as this plays out on the long, dusty finish. Best from 2026 through 2043." The Wine Spectator, 95 Points
