This Chateauneuf du Pape based estate continues to go from strength to strength, as Brotte fashions a bevy of beautiful red wines from throughout the Southern Rhone. In almost all cases, the wines over-deliver like the Cotes du Rhone Cairanne. A blend of Grenache, Mourvedre, and Syrah, the long, hot, dry growing season produced great wines, and this Cairanne is from some of the oldest plots of the appellation, 100 years for the Grenache! The combination of the vineyards and the vintage produced reds with great focus, dark aromas of plums and red cherries with plenty of tannins and structure. Brotte balances this with two years in oak foudre before bottling.
"Offers a stream of juicy cassis, fresh red currant and dried herbs that race alongside smoked sandalwood and pencil lead shavings, with incense and floral notes adding lift. Well-built, with a firming frame of tannins bringing shape and a salty mesquite note at the close. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan. Drink now through 2025. 6,000 cases made, 1,500 cases imported." The Wine Spectator, 90 Points
