Famed New York Times wine critic Eric Asimov has written on several occasions that most wines have their seasonal associations. Rose in the summer, Rieslings in spring, and Chateauneuf du Pape in the fall. Thankfully, the cooler weather is right around the corner and The Wine Buyer is excited to once again feature one of our favorites, the Domaine Les Escondudes 2018, made by the famed co-op of Le Cellier des Princes. The name Escondudes comes from the Spanish word Escondidas meaning "hidden" in reference to the special, little hidden valley where the vineyard of Domaine Les Escondudes is located. Thanks to its rocky soil with large round pebbles, its grape varieties and its traditional winemaking method, the Domaine des Escondudes offers an elegant tannic structure. Mostly Grenache, with a dollop of Syrah and Mourvedre, it's a full-bodied but balanced wine that highlights rich, easing black fruit flavors edged by a delicate coating of licorice flavors and spices. Drink now through 2028, don't miss this limited release!
"The tank-aged 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Domaine les Escondudes is another successful vintage, boasting exotic stone fruit aromas alongside more traditional notes of garrigue, red raspberries and cherries. It's full-bodied, a bit rounder and more generous than the 2017, equally silky and maybe even a touch more elegant on the lingering finish." The Wine Advocate, 92-94 Points
