Rhone lovers know how tough it can be to find a great Chateauneuf du Pape for under $40. How about one with scores and pedigree from a benchmark producer like Domaine Giraud, who's received 100 point scores from Robert Parker & The Wine Advocate! The Tradition comes from vineyards in the southern part of Chateauneuf, famous for its red clay soils and galets. From vines ranging in age from 50-80 years old, the blend is nearly 80% Grenache followed by Syrah and small amount of Mourvedre. It is fermented in concrete and stainless steel tanks and while the Mourvedre and Grenache rests in concrete, the Syrah is aged in French oak barrels. Revealing a more translucent ruby color as well as a beautiful perfume of kirsch, herbes de Provence, Provençal garrigue, and ground pepper, this medium-bodied beauty has a soft, seductive texture, no hard edges, and a great finish. It’s as gulpable as they come and ideal for enjoying over the coming 8-10 years.
"Brilliant ruby. Highly perfumed red berry and floral scents are complemented by suggestions of pungent herbs and smoky minerals. Sweet and penetrating on the palate, offering juicy raspberry, cherry and floral pastille flavors that deepen with air. In a seamless, energetic style, conveying a smooth blend of richness and finesse and finishing gently sweet and long, with even tannins and building spiciness." Vinous Media, 93 Points
"Charming and fresh, with a forward personality thanks to fresh raspberry and bing cherry coulis flavors streaming through, laced with light sandalwood and red tea hints and backed by a late echo of shiso leaf. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Best from 2022 through 2034. 350 cases imported." The Wine Spectator, 92 Points
"Loaded with clean, ripe, succulent red fruit, the 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape is a mélange of raspberries and cherries borne on a supple, creamy-textured, full-bodied palate. While not overly complex, it's whole lot of fun to drink, a thrill ride of berries with just enough spice to add a savory component to the finish." The Wine Advocate, 92 Points
