A brand new Cotes du Rhone Village has just arrived at The Wine Buyer from superstar winemaker Eric Bonnet. A family estate, built around a 16th century chapel, the 50 hectares of vineyards owned by La Bastide Saint Dominique is a unique place in Courthezon, a stones throw from Chateau Rayas, at the foothills of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. With similar soils, elevation and aspect to it’s neighbor (Chateau Rayas) and treated with the same care and respect, it’s no wonder that when tasted blind many would confuse this wine for Chateauneuf-du-Pape. A real Southern Rhone blend of Grenache, Mourvedre, Carignan and Syrah from 20-60 years old vineyards, this cuvee is dominated by Grenache (50%) which is Bonnet's muse. Deep and rich, this is remarkable for the price. Even Jeb Dunnuck says they’re the closest thing to Chateau Rayas out there. Rhone royalty for Under $15 a bottle!
"A solid red, juicy, textured and dense, with aromas of mixed berries, thyme and baking spices. Medium-bodied with fine tannins. Velvety with crunchy berry character at the center. Vivid and spicy with a flavorful finish. 50% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 15% Carignan and 15% Mourvedre." James Suckling, 92 Points
