When we think of the top names in Super Tuscans, the "who's who" list includes Antinori's Solaia, Sassicaia and Ornellaia. Argentiera is on the verge of greatness and is like picking up one of these bottles fifteen years ago when they were still under $100! James Suckling in his 99 Point review of the 2015 Vintage (Top 20 of 2018) puts Argentiera with the best of the best in Tuscany. We couldn't agree more and think this is the perfect chance to experience once of the best wines of Italy. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Syrah (like Ornellaia!) with a nose expressing complex cherry, plum, and spice tones on a backbone of leather, black pepper, and almonds. Aged 18 months in barrel then another 12 in the bottle, there is a depth and elegance to Argentiera that you only see in $200+ Italian Super Tuscans.
"Rich aromas of currants and plums with chocolate and walnut undertones. Full-bodied and chewy with layers of tannins. It’s a big wine and very juicy with a polished and long finish. Needs five to six years to soften. Best after 2027." James Suckling, 96 Points
"A dark, brooding red, yet also smooth and complex, revealing black currant, blackberry, plum, loam and sweet spice flavors. Beautifully balanced and fluid, with a long, detailed aftertaste that flexes the tannins. Impressive. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2040." The Wine Spectator, 95 Points
