The most famous red wine made in Tuscany is Brunello di Montalcino. 100% Sangiovese aged five years after harvest, the estate of Val de Suga is a historical producer in Montalcino that dates back to the 1960’s. A pioneer in terrior-driven Brunello and the only producer making three single-vineyards in three different estates: Vigna del Lago in the North-East, Vinga Spuntali in the South-West and Pogigo al Granchio in the South-East. Because of the different micro-climates, soils and winemaking styles, their Brunello di Montalcino shows different expressions of Sangiovese, and why the estate is so popular within the category. Focused and vibrant, don't miss the last of the historic 2016 vintage!
"The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino has aromatics of menthol and medicinal herbs, brushed leather, and black cherry. The palate is dark fruited without weight, marked with dried blackberry, black tea, dried herbs, and classically balanced structure. It is sourced from three different vineyard sites of various exposition on the hill of Montalcino. This will be ready to drink a touch earlier and be great to check in on over the next 15 years." Jeb Dunnuck, 94 Points
"Dusty notes with crushed gravel and dried tea leaves are a prelude to aromas of fresh button mushrooms and hints of fennel. Savory mushrooms and olives, followed by firm, fine-grained tannins. Structured and full-bodied." James Suckling, 94 Points
"Aromas of iron, blood and cherry lead off in this smooth and vibrant red, with a well of dark fruit—black cherry and blackberry—settling in on the palate. Offers a dusting of dark chocolaty tannins on the finish." The Wine Spectator, 93 Points
