Bordeaux is made famous by its big names. Places like Chateau Haut Brion, Mouton Rothschild, Lafite, Latour and Margaux. But combined, these historic classified properties represent less than 5% of the overall wine production in the region. That leaves thousands of wines and vineyards that benefit from the same vintage conditions, and are sold at a fraction of the price. Chateau Malbec lies to the north of the village of Sainte-Eulalie, some fifteen kilometres from the actual city of Bordeaux, at the gateway to the Entre-deux-Mers wine region. The Malbec name originally derives from the name of a wealthy local family, Jeanne Malbec, wife of the Governor of the province of Guyenne. Today, the estate is run by the Castel Group, who for three generations have elevated this esteemed Chateau back to its former glory.
