The most famous of all crus, Burgaud's Morgon Grand Cras 2022 is the best vintage we've ever tasted. These are amazing wines and Jean-Marc Burgaud is a star! A recent article in the Wall Street Journal, Lettie Teague says of Morgon: "The top Beaujolais crus have plenty in common with their Burgundy peers; Beaujolais is, after all, a subregion of Burgundy. The fact that these very good wines are usually much cheaper than comparable ones from other regions in Burgundy means they’re often great value—and often underestimated as well." At the foothill of the Cote du Py, there is the plot "Les Grands Cras" considered the best in Morgon, where the vines are in excess of 50 years old, planted on blue stone volcanic granite slopes. Complex, delicate, and vivacious with floral aromas and bright red fruit flavors, this multi-dimensional Morgon should not be missed!
"This compact and concentrated Morgon makes a bold statement. Lots of savory, plus hints of wet earth and bark on the well-rounded, medium-bodied palate. The best thing about the wine is the complex, firm and earthy finish that leaves no doubt about its excellent aging potential. From four hectares of 50- to 70-year-old vines. Drinkable now, but best from 2025." James Suckling, 95 Points
