The most famous of all Crus, the Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py 2022 is shaping up to be the best vintage ever! These are amazing wines that often get overlooked in our portfolio, and Jean-Marc Burgaud is a budding young star. A recent article in the Wall Street Journal, Lettie Teague says of Morgon: "The top Beaujolais crus have plenty in common with their Burgundy peers; Beaujolais is, after all, a subregion of Burgundy. The fact that these very good wines are usually much cheaper than comparable ones from other regions in Burgundy means they’re often great value—and often underestimated as well." The Cote du Py is considered the best vineyard in Morgon, where the vines are in excess of 50 years old, planted on blue stone volcanic granite slopes. Close your eyes and the Burgaud Morgon 2022 tastes like a 1er Cru Burgundy mixed with an Oregon Pinot Noir. Complex, delicate, and vivacious with floral aromas and bright red fruit flavors, this multi-dimensional Cote du Py should not be missed!
"An inspiring Morgon Cote du Py. Smelling this is like looking down into a vast chasm filled with blackberries. Stunning mineral energy and focus on the medium-bodied palate. You can almost taste the wind that whips over this hilltop site. Then a wave of tiny, fresh blackberries washes over your palate at the wonderfully energetic finish. Drink or hold." James Suckling, 97 Points
"2022 was a standout year for the Côte du Py, making wines of great depth that will stand a great test of time. On the nose, the 2022 Morgon Côte du Py unfurls with aromas of tangy blackberries, plums, blood orange, oak leaf and slate. Medium to full-bodied, this wine exudes an energetic presence, characterized by a well-defined structure upheld by tangy acids and velvety tannins made firm by concentration. Deeply nuanced, it gradually unfolds on the palate with layers of umami richness intertwined with hints of iron-like salinity melded seamlessly with persistent tangy black fruit. This is a standout wine that demands attention." The Wine Advocate, 94 Points
"The 2022 Morgon Côte du Py has an absolutely delightful bouquet. Much more charming than the Corcelette, it shows exquisite delineation with perfumed, mineral-laced red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins, very focused with a touch of Indian spice toward the detailed finish. This has a long life ahead. It’s so refined and elegant."
